Richard Humann: Ascension at High Line Nine
October 5, 2019
Richard Humann creates an alternate universe within our own universe in his location-based augmented reality (AR) multimedia installation, Ascension. The work consists of imaginary constellations suspended in the sky over New York City, Venice, Italy and the city of Seoul, Korea and is viewed on a smartphone or tablet.
“The constellations that we recognize today are based on a 2,000-year-old mythology derived from the ancient Greeks. Their heroes, villains, mortals, and gods ascended into the sky for all eternity. Inspired by the seminal work of comparative mythology, The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell, I superimpose a new constellation system over our existing one. I created a new mythology and the new folklore, by taking popular figures of the 20th Century and then developed a visually metaphoric and encapsulated story arc that accompanies them.” — Richard Humann
Richard Humann’s work is part of the exhibition “Art Has No Limits”, Augmented Reality Fine Art at High Line Nine, Gallery 9 in Chelsea.
Exhibition was curated by Aery. Aery is a new platform that extends exhibition space beyond the physical limitations of galleries and museums by displaying fine art in digital form. Aery includes an AR art app, currently in beta, that enables the public to seek out and experience augmented reality art anchored in the real world.
